The 10 best stalls at Seah Im Food Centre

01 • Makan Boleh (halal)

Makan Boleh is a crowd-favourite at Seah Im Food Centre, best known for its epok epok (traditional Malaysian curry puffs). Each piece has a buttery, golden pastry crust that encases delicious spiced potato chunks, eggs, or sardines.

The delights don’t stop there. The stall also dishes out a range of Malaysian classics throughout the day. Start your morning with some Nasi Lemak, containing fragrant rice and equally tasty sambal, or a hearty plate of flavour-packed Mee Goreng.

If you’re there during lunchtime, we recommend the Nasi Campur, a rice dish with various side dishes such as fried chicken, sambal, prawn crackers and stir-fried veggies. Those looking for a non-rice meal should try their rich and aromatic laksa that’s served in the evening. The thick coconut curry and punchy spices will awaken your taste buds in no time.

02 • Thaksin Beef Noodle (halal)

Rain or shine, we’d never say no to a bowl of steaming hot beef noodle soup. If you’re like us, Thaksin Beef Noodle is a must-try at Seah Im Food Centre. The halal Thai stall is best known for its classic beef noodles, whose star is the rich broth infused with aromatics and simmered to perfection over hours to develop a deep, comforting flavour. Imagine chewing up chunks of beef and springy noodles that have soaked up every bit of that broth while occasionally biting crisp bean sprouts and fresh herbs. 🤤

Apart from the beef noodles, Thaksin also offers a variety of other Thai dishes, including Phad Thai, the iconic stir-fry noodles, known for the right balance of sweet, tangy, and savoury flavours, and the humble yet delicious Fried Rice. The latter is available with vegetarian or beef options.

03 • Shi Ji Noodle Stall

Shi Ji Noodle Stall has been a longstanding favourite at Seah Im Food Centre and has consistently served noodles that have stood the test of time. Their bestseller, the humble Lor Mee, is a noodle dish served in a rich, starchy, and flavourful broth. The noodles are served with a variety of toppings such as braised eggs, fishcake, and other savoury delights. Help yourself to the free-flow vinegar and chilli to customise the broth to your liking.

That’s not all — Shi Ji also whips up some killer prawn noodles with fresh, succulent prawns and a tangy broth bursting with flavours. If you’re not a Lor Mee or prawn noodle enthusiast, the duck noodles, accompanied by a bowl of comforting herbal soup, might tickle your fancy.

No frills, no fuss – just some seriously good food. That’s the charm of Aspirasi Chicken Rice, a stall in Seah Im Food Centre that attracts chicken lovers like moths to a candle. Our top recommendation is the classic Ayam Penyet, featuring fried chicken that’s sinfully crispy on the outside and deliciously juicy on the inside. Of course, the dish isn’t complete without fragrant rice, a side of sambal with just the right kick to keep you panting yet craving more, and unlimited crispy bits characteristic of every good ayam penyet plate.

Not a fan of fried food? Aspirasi also sells a variety of roasted chicken options, from zesty lemon and tangy sweet and sour to bold black pepper.

Egyptian food in Singapore is a rare treat, so you can imagine our excitement when we stumbled upon the Two Guys stall. Founded by an Egyptian chef, this hidden treasure brings the bold, vibrant flavours from the country of the Nile straight to our backyard.

The menu features mouthwatering options like tender lamb and chicken, fresh kebabs, and the standout Egyptian Hawashi, a stuffed pita brimming with spiced lamb or chicken. For something truly unique, don’t miss their special cheeseburger, made with a beef-and-lamb patty that’s extra juicy. 🧀

06 • Yong Tau Foo

If you’re on a health grind this year and trying to get more whole foods, check out the Yong Tau Fu stall at Seah Im Food Centre for a healthy and soulful meal. Formerly known as Tian Ji Niang Dou Fu, this stall offers an array of fresh ingredients like stuffed tofu, fresh veggies, fried wantons, and various noodles. Pick your preferred soup base, or go for the dry version that’s tossed in a savoury, garlicky sauce.

This stall is slightly unorthodox for a yong tau foo place. Instead of picking the toppings yourself, you’ll have to choose from a range of pre-selected set meals. The sets contain adequate veggies and protein to ensure a balanced meal, and you can even add extra ingredients for a small fee.

07 • Kowloon Wanton Mee

(Photo: Nestia)

Wanton mee is one of those classic dishes that never fails to hit the spot, and Kowloon Wanton Mee does that just right. Their springy noodles are tossed in a savoury soy sauce and topped with sweet and smoky char siew.

Of course, no bowl of wanton mee is complete without the comforting soup filled with plump, juicy wontons that burst open and release their meaty fillings into your mouth. 😍

08 • K’s Kurry

(Photo: Honeycombers)

Hankering for something spicy? K’s Kurry is the go-to spot at Seah Im Food Centre if you’re hunting for an Indian meal. Our top pick is the Chicken Biriyani. The plate has a generous serving of fragrant spiced rice, tender chicken, and a side of boiled egg, cucumber, and papadam. You can switch to a piece of crispy fried chicken or choose other meat options that are just as delicious.

Another crowd-pleaser is the Maggie Goreng, which consists of wok-fried Maggie noodles tossed with carrots, onions, bits of meat, and a fried egg.

The real deal, however, is the classic Roti Prata with chicken curry. The prata is crispy and flaky on the outside, with a chewy centre, and provides a harmony of flavours when dipped in the mildly spicy and rich chicken curry. For a fun twist, go for the prata with fillings like egg, sausage, or cheese.

No meal is complete without a beverage, so head to Az Zumar and order a good cuppa.

Beyond the classic teh, kopi, and Milo, you’ll also find Red Thai Milk tea, Thai Green Tea, a sweet and fruity Lychee-Longan drink, Milo Dinosaur, and even the nostalgic Root Beer Float with a topping of creamy vanilla ice cream,

10 • Coffee Queen

(Photo: Michelin Guide)

The best way to start the day is with a classic Singaporean breakfast. Coffee Queen’s speciality is its breakfast offerings, which include a variety of toasts paired with tea or coffee. The signature Kaya Butter Toast is a standout. It’s crispy and crumbly on the outside, with a thick coconut kaya jam and a slab of creamy butter sandwiched between. The peanut butter toast is no less impressive, especially when you have it with runny eggs on the side.

While they do serve coffee and tea, it’s the creamy, frothy, and sweet Teh Tarik that steals the show. It’s not common to see beverage stalls entertaining snaking lines, but this one does, and it’s no surprise.
