If you’ve not been behind the wheels in a long time, the thought of driving again can be daunting. That’s why there’s something called the refresher driving course in Singapore which can help you regain your confidence on the road. In this guide, we’ll cover everything that you need to know about enrolling for a refresher driving course, including the costs. Read on to learn more! 🧐

What’s a refresher driving course?

A refresher driving course is essentially a short training that’ll re-introduce you to some driving basics. They include:

  • Pre-drive procedures (e.g, checking for vehicle condition, adjusting seat, rear view and side mirrors, etc.)
  • Circuit training
  • Driving on slopes and expressways
  • Parking techniques
  • City driving

Who can enrol for the refresher course?

The refresher driving course in Singapore isn’t only beneficial for those who haven’t driven a car in a while. If you’re new to Singapore and just converted your foreign driving licence but aren’t familiar with actually driving on the island, this course will help you prep for the local roads.

As long as you already have a valid Class 3, 3A, 3C or a 3CA driving licence, you’re eligible for the refresher course.

Where can you enrol for a refresher course and how much does it cost?

Glad you asked! You’ll be able to sign up for a refresher driving course in any one of the three driving schools in Singapore: Bukit Batok Driving Centre (BBDC), Singapore Safety Driving Centre (SSDC), and ComfortDelGro Driving Centre (CDC) — or with a private driving instructor.

Generally, the enrolment procedure across all three schools are pretty much the same. Let’s have a closer look at each school.

Refresher driving course at BBDC

Unlike enrolling for a driving licence course at BBDC which can be done online, you’ll have to go down in person to the school to sign up for the refresher course. Remember to bring along your original valid driving licence when registering.

Once you’re enrolled, you may go ahead and book your practical driving lessons online. The school recommends that you attend 5 lessons, but this depends on how skilled and confident you are. Don’t forget to take along your IC or work permit, driving licence and cashcard (for ERP) for every lesson.

Refresher driving course at SSDC

To enrol for the refresher course at SSDC, you’ll have to make an e-appointment on the website before heading down in person to register. Be sure to bring along your original IC or passport, and your valid driving licence.

The standard refresher course at SSDC requires you to attend 4 practical driving lessons of 100 minutes each. Again, remember to have your IC, passport or work permit, your driving licence and a cashcard with you during every session.

Refresher driving course at CDC

Similar to the previous driving school, you’ll have to first make an e-appointment on the CDC website and then sign up for the refresher course in person. Bring along your original IC or passport, and your valid driving licence (photocopied documents will not be accepted).

CDC requires you to attend a minimum of 2 practical driving lessons, but you may choose to attend more if you wish.

Refresher driving course with a private driving instructor

Those who work long hours or aren’t able to commit to fixed hours of lessons can also opt for a refresher driving course with a private instructor as they’re generally more flexible with timings.

However, do note that not all private driving instructors will be able to fetch and drop you at your preferred location. It’s best to check with your chosen instructor.
