I’ve always had a soft spot for a good Chinese restaurant. The food is served in generous portions and intended for large groups to share. It’s an excellent opportunity to try a myriad of delicious food at once without overeating. Whether you’re looking for somewhere to have your long-awaited reunion dinner or celebrate another occasion, here are the 8 best Chinese restaurants in Singapore worth visiting.

01 • Lei Garden

Lei Garden is a familiar name for aficionados of Chinese cuisine in Singapore. The popular Hong Kong restaurant’s Singapore branch has been a mainstay in the local culinary scene since the 1980s for its refined take on Cantonese food.

If you’re up for treating yourself and your loved ones to a memorable meal, try the Roast Suckling Pig. Once your teeth break through the ultra-crispy skin and your tongue hits the pig’s well-defined, silky fat, you will become a fan for life. End off with the sesame-filled Sweet Dumplings or the Chilled Mango Sweetener for a refreshing yet mild conclusion to an otherwise flavour-packed meal.

02 • Hua Ting

Did you think we’d write an article about Chinese restaurants in Singapore without mentioning Hua Ting? This restaurant has been the culinary treasure of Orchard Hotel longer than I’ve been alive, and it’s scooped up enough awards along the way, including a spot on the Michelin Guide and the Straits Times’ Silver Best Asian Restaurant Award.

Hua Ting regularly changes its offerings with the season, but regardless of the time of year, you will find bestsellers ready for eager diners. Until 12 February 2025, the restaurant serves various special menus for Chinese New Year, including 2 for vegetarians.

For the rest of us, ardent meat eaters, look forward to classic seafood and meat options like abalone, lobster, and pork, as well as an array of delectable desserts.

If you’re heading down after the festive season, rest assured that you’ll still be wowed with dishes like the Marinated 8-head Abalone, which rewards you with undertones of Japanese Sake.

📍 Address: Orchard Hotel Singapore, Level 2, 442 Orchard Road, Singapore 238879
⏰ Opening hours: Mon to Fri, 11:30am – 2:30pm, 6pm – 10pm | Sat and Sun, 11am – 2:30pm, 6pm – 10pm

03 • Qi – House Of Sichuan

You know those gimmicky hot sauce brands that all individually claim to be the hottest sauce in the world? I bet the people behind them have never tried a meal at Qi — House of Sichuan.

So, remember this: the next time you consider spending $15 on a bottle you saw on your reels, grab a few of your iron-tongued homies, and blow up your stomachs enjoying some masterful Sichuan cuisine at this restaurant.

Qi’s speciality is drenching its dishes in a signature Mala sauce, which has earned the Hong Kong-based restaurant its Michelin Star consistently for 4 years in a row. If you’re brave with chillies, try the Chilli Fried Sri Lanka Crab and be rewarded with plump, heaty meat that promises an addictive peppercorn aftertaste.

If crab’s not your thing, slurp on some Braised Garoupa in Chili Oil Soup. The best thing about this dish is that it’s surprisingly not as oily as you’d expect while being every bit as compelling.

04 • Tien Court

Tien Court is headed by Chef Lui Wing Keung, a veteran of Hong Kong’s cooking scene whose 32 years of experience show in every dish he prepares. In his deft hands, the old and new blend together seamlessly. Come prepared for Chef Lui’s contemporary take on Teochew cuisine, surrounded by an austere interior that’s remained since 1989.

If you’re a fan of crab, don’t miss their Teochew-style Chilled Yellow Roe Crab. At $15 per 100g, it’s a steal for a refined, yet rich-tasting dish with lightly-seasoned flesh that further accentuates the creaminess of the roe.

But if you want to sink your teeth into the real deal, go for the Signature Braised White Teat Sea Cucumber in Oyster Sauce. You’ll wish that everyone else cooked sea cucumber as smoky as he did.

💡 Pro tip: Tien Court doesn’t take walk-ins, so reserve seats early.

05 • Jiak Modern Tzechar (halal)

Few things are as comforting as eating zi char with good company — the people running Jiak know this well. This modern Chinese restaurant in Singapore includes a dine-in experience in a cosy, air-conditioned environment, which is rare for a zi char restaurant.

Jiak fanatics recommend its golden-charred Claypot Golden Chicken and the signature Curry Fish Head. The latter has a mild spiciness but more than makes up for it with its intense flavours and fresh vegetables.

📍 Address: 4 Hillview Rise, #02-04, Singapore 667979

06 • Jumbo Seafood

When I think of Jumbo Seafood, I think of my favourite chilli crab. It’s a staple of Chinese restaurants in Singapore, and Jumbo’s mastery of this dish, alongside their equally sturdy Black Pepper Crab, has propelled the brand to become one of the go-to places for crab. Don’t miss out on the Golden Salted Egg Prawns, fried to perfection, packed with rich, umami flavours, and de-shelled for maximum indulgence.

07 • Hai Ge Ji Hainanese Chicken Rice (halal)

(Photo: Eatbook)

We know eating chicken rice during a gathering is unconventional, but hear us out: if you’re out with the gang and want to dig into a sumptuous plate of chicken rice, head down to Hai Ge Ji. Finding an empty table during dinnertime can be tricky, but take it as a sign that the food is terrific.

The chicken is fragrant and succulent, and the generous rice portion is deliciously greasy to the right degree. Sometimes, basic really is better.

08 • Blue Lotus

(Photo: Sentosa)

The first images that conjure when someone says Chinese food rarely include sand-swept beaches and waves crashing the shore. But did you know that there is a Chinese restaurant in Singapore that comes with a stunning sea view?

Shacked up at Sentosa’s Seaside, Blue Lotus fuses traditional Chinese cuisine with Singaporean flavours to give you a laid-back dining experience worthy of any beach day. Don’t be fooled by the chill vibes, though: dishes like the Steamed Live Marble Goby Fish and the Szechuan Gong Bao Chicken are delicately prepared to satisfy even the staunchest traditionalists who may think having Chinese food by the beach is gimmicky.

Until 12 February 2025, enjoy a Chinese New Year Yu Sheng that’s just a little different — who wouldn’t want to toss up a healthy serving of Norweigan Smoked Salmon? Yam Seng!

📍 Address: 31 Ocean Way, #01-13 Quayside Isle, Singapore 098375
