It’s happening. Between 3 April 2026 and 5 April 2026, the National Stadium will transform into a massive arena of sweat and cheers for the next HYROX Singapore event. If you have ever felt like the traditional gym routine was getting a bit stale, then this upcoming race might just be the spark you need to reignite your fitness journey. I used to think these competitions were only for elite athletes, but I was enchanted by many a tale from friends as well as GetGo’s very own Johnson Lim, all of whom have taken part in last year’s edition of the contest. Thanks to them, I’ve gotten motivated to take a stab at this challenge myself, and after spending almost 2 months training for the competition, I want to share my insights with you.
What is HYROX?
It’s a race. Specifically, it is a global indoor competition that combines 8km of running with 8 functional workout stations. Because the track is located inside our iconic National Stadium, you won’t have to worry about the humidity or the rain ruining your pace while you tackle those kilometres. Everyone follows the exact same format. It’s fair. It’s tough. You will love it.
The 8 by 8 challenge

The structure is simple: you run 1km, then you complete one functional station. You repeat this until you have completed all eight stations and covered the full 8km.
- 1,000m SkiErg: Your arms will burn. This station is meant to simulate skiing, but in practice, you’ll be yanking your arms down a looooooot.
- 50m Sled Push: Shove a weighted sled really hard. Your burden will weigh anywhere between 102kg (Women's Open) to 202kg (Men's Pro)
- 50m Sled Pull: This time, you’ll be using a rope to pull the sled. The weights here are slightly lighter, ranging between 78kg (Women's Open) to 153kg (Men’s Pro)
- 80m Burpee Broad Jumps: You know what a burpee is.
- 1,000m Row: Sit down and pull. The ideal speed for this station is 20-30 rows per minute, so be sure to maintain pace.
- 200m Farmers Carry: While your grip might start to fail after the previous stations, this station requires you to hold 2 kettlebells (up to 64kg total) tightly while maintaining form.
- 100m Sandbag Lunges: Balance is key here. This exercise tests your quads and glutes, so be sure to hit those Romanian deadlift.
- 100 Wall Balls: You throw a weighted ball at a target until the judge confirms you have reached the required number of reps. Don’t let the catchy title fool you, as this is one of the most gruelling challenges in the whole lineup.

Why do this alone? While the individual categories are great for testing your personal limits, you can also grab a friend and sign up for the Doubles category to share the load. But no matter how you choose to HYROX, you’re sure to be swept up in the atmosphere of the whole affair. Crowds will be screaming, music will be pumping, and you feel like a total rockstar even if you are moving slower than you originally planned.
Getting to the National Stadium

Training is the hard part, so the commute should be easy. Between 3 April 2026 and 5 April 2026, thousands of people will be heading to the stadium, which means public transport will be incredibly crowded. Booking a GetGo car means you can toss your heavy gym bag, yoga mat, and three spare water bottles into the boot without a second thought. After you have pushed your body to its limit, you won't want to stand on a packed train, so having a drive waiting for you will be a total game changer.
