The Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is an additional protection that ensures a cap to accident claims in the event of a vehicle accident. Here’s everything you need to know about the CDW.
What is the CDW?
The CDW is an additional insurance coverage that waives 50% of your insurance excess in the event of a vehicle accident. You can opt-in to purchase the CDW for an additional 5% of your total booking fee.
How is the CDW different from basic car insurance?
Basic car insurance, which is applied to all bookings by default, helps bear the cost of accident claims that exceed the insurance excess amount.
On the other hand, the CDW helps reduce the insurance excess amount by 50%.
Quick refresher: What is insurance excess?
Insurance excess is the amount that you’ll have to pay out of pocket in the event of an accident. Think of insurance excess as a cap that protects you from paying the full cost of accident claims. Regardless of how much the claims come up to, the insurance excess is the maximum amount that you’ll need to pay. Learn more about insurance excess.
How does the CDW work, and what does it cover?
Here’s a scenario that explains how the CDW works:
- A user accidentally side-swipes another car on the road.
- Our appointed workshop assesses the accident damages, and the total claims come up to $5,000.
- The insurance excess of $3,270 is triggered.
- If the user did not purchase the CDW, the full insurance excess of $3,270 will need to be paid.
- If the user did purchase the CDW, half the insurance excess is waived — they only need to pay $1,635.
How much does the CDW cost?
The CDW costs an additional 5% on top of your total booking fee (which includes the time charge, mileage charge, and platform fee).
For example, if your total booking fee is $50, you’ll be charged an additional $2.50 if you opt-in for the CDW. This means that your final booking fee will be $52.50.
What is not covered by the CDW?
- Accident claims that cost lower than the reduced insurance excess of $1,635 for Own Damage and Third Party Damage respectively.
- Damages that were not caused by an accident
