6 achievable New Year 2025 resolution ideas and how you can keep them

I always seem to get a bit too ambitious with my New Year’s resolutions. Getting a 6-pack while also finishing a bachelor’s degree is probably possible for some people. But I probably should’ve waited until I could lift up my 2kg dumbbells without feeling winded before ordering that pull-up bar.
This year, I’m all about setting realistic, achievable goals, and pacing myself. So, here are 7 achievable New Year’s resolutions for 2025!
01 • Smell the roses

Even though the pandemic has been over for ages by this point, my digital diet still seems stuck in 2021. To make things worse, just about everyone I know complains about spending too much time on their phone but feels like they can’t do anything about it.
In 2025, I’m gonna try to spend less time in my room and more time outside. It doesn’t have to be a big dramatic thing — doomscrolling on a park bench is still better than doomscrolling in bed. And with GetGo, getting to any park can be easy and quick, so I won’t have any time to second-guess myself, even if I’m itching to see the far-flung pagodas of Jurong Lake Gardens that would typically take ages to get to with public transport. Win-win!
02 • Learn a new skill

Last year, I picked up yoyoing, balisong tricks, and juggling. While none of them are useful by any stretch of the imagination, it feels good to feel myself get better at a skill, and to know that even at my advanced age (late 20s), I’m still able to grow and change.
This year, I’m setting my sights a little higher. When I first learnt to drive, I was so bad at gear shifting that my instructor persuaded me to swap to automatic. But this is the year I’ll conquer that dreaded clutch. I can feel it!
If you’re looking to learn a new useful skill, whether it be learning to drive a manual car or just learning to drive outright, I’m rooting for you to get it done this year! Just to be safe, though, you should probably familiarise yourself with the process of getting your license, just so you know how you’ll make it happen over the next few months.
03 • Follow your heart

Imagine this: you’re on the couch on a weekend afternoon, scrolling through your feed. Suddenly, you see a cool new cafe, a sick new event, or something of that sort. You think to yourself, “Wow! That looks cool! I’ll check it out on my next day off.” You save the post and forget about it in 2 days. On your next weekend afternoon, you’re on your couch again.
If this sounds familiar to you, I’ve been there. Mustering the will to simply just get out there can be tough if you don’t already have plans to keep. But with GetGo, going out and checking out Singapore’s newest and coolest haunts has never been easier, so carpe those diems, my friends.
04 • Spend more time with loved ones

Some of my most memorable hangouts have been with friends who’d call me out of the blue at like, 2am. At my lowest moments, I’ve always wished that I could recreate that magic; that a friend would call me up again to hang out at some eating house in the wee hours of the night. That is, until I realised that I could be that friend!
For 2025, I’m going to spend more time with friends and loved ones. Thanks to GetGo’s 24/7 availability, the next hangout is just a call and a booking away, so that’s less time spent in transit and more time spent enjoying each other’s company.
05 • Help the people around you

Sometimes, it’s hard to escape the feeling that the world’s on fire, metaphorically and literally. While you and I can’t do anything to stop these grand, globe-sweeping events, we can at least help the people around us and extend compassion to those in need.
No matter if you’re driving a family member to a medical appointment or making a small donation to a charitable organisation, kindness comes in all shapes and sizes. To everyone reading this and still stuck on what New Year’s resolutions to stick with for 2025, I’d like to invite you to take a moment. Think about the small opportunities to help other people that may present themselves to you in your daily life, and what you can do to grasp the chance when it comes up 🌹
06 • Get out of your comfort zone

If the rest of this article hasn’t tipped you off already, I’m a bit of a homebody. While I’m already planning to take my time immersing myself in nature, I also feel like I need to just really dive into something again.
There are tons of ways to break out of your comfort zone, big or small. Of course, everyone’s comfortable with different things, so whatever is a brave step in a new direction for one person might just be a walk in the park for another. Personally? I’m thinking of trying bouldering.
