Charge your cameras because a brand-new underwater world is resurfacing in Sentosa. Formerly known as the S.E.A. Aquarium, the rebranded and revamped Singapore Oceanarium is finally set to reopen its doors on July 23. Three times bigger than its predecessor and bursting at the seams with 22 zones of oceanic treasures, this next-gen aquarium is packed with immersive habitats and visual feasts. Here’s everything you need to know about the Oceanarium before you head down.

What to expect at the Singapore Oceanarium

The first thing you’ll notice at the Oceanarium is its massive size. If you thought the original S.E.A was huge, wait until you see this one. There’s so much space to explore without bumping elbows as you wander through 22 themed zones — each spotlighting a different face of ocean life. From the gentle shallows and coral reefs bustling with marine activity to the mysterious deep sea, you’ll see it all here.

It might feel a little overwhelming at first, but the Oceanarium is designed to guide you seamlessly and chronologically (unlike walking in an IKEA store 😭).

You’ll start in the prehistoric era, where you’ll encounter life-sized models of long-extinct sea creatures and slowly work your way up to the present day. There’s even a reconstruction of a whale fall ecosystem (aka what happens when a whale’s carcass sinks to the ocean floor and becomes an underwater buffet). Nom nom! 🐋

The coolest zones at the Singapore Oceanarium

Ocean Wonders

At Ocean Wonders, you’ll find one of the world’s largest Kreisel tanks — a special round tank made just for delicate animals like jellyfish. They’re filled with thousands of sea jellies gliding in hypnotic unison. Trust me, you won’t feel like peeling your eyes away.

Singapore’s Coast

The ocean isn’t just home to the big sharks and rays. There’s also magic in the simpler, littler buddies. At the Singapore’s Coast zone, you’ll see our local marine biodiversity amidst mangrove-inspired landscapes and interactive exhibits that highlight the unique species that call Singapore’s waters home.

Expect hands-on features and fun educational moments for all ages. It’s a nod to our backyard, proving that you don’t have to travel far to find a rich marine ecosystem.

It’s showtime! This is the part the kids (and maybe you, too) are going to go, “Whoa!” 🤯

The Open Ocean zone is where all the big guys hang out. Expect to see massive manta rays and zebra sharks gracefully cruising through a larger-than-life habitat behind a whopping 36-metre-wide viewing panel. It’s like an IMAX screen of the sea, except everything you see is happening live. It’s pure unscripted ocean magic!

Food and drinks at the Singapore Oceanarium

All that walking, and you’re not refuelling? Baaad idea. Head to the Explorer’s Nook or Tide Deli, the Oceanarium’s very own cafés, where you can grab marine-inspired light bites, pastries, and drinks, and rest your feet. The cafés’ interiors are so cute, you’ll want to whip your camera out.

Souvenirs

If there’s no proof, it didn’t happen. So, make a stop at the Singapore Oceanarium Store before you wrap up your visit. This place is more than just a gift shop. Browse through sustainably produced goodies, such as ocean-inspired books, cuddly sea creature plushies, and exclusive products from local brands. Whether it’s a keepsake for yourself or a gift for someone back on shore, it’s a little piece of the Oceanarium you can take home with you.

Can’t wait to go, can you? Ditto! Snag your tickets now.
