There’s something about Mexican food that appeals to foodies everywhere. Maybe it’s the delicious textures or perhaps the burst of flavours and colours. Whatever the reason, one thing’s certain — Singaporeans love Mexican cuisine! Here are some of the best spots to have Mexican food in Singapore for your next foodie excursion.
01 • Papi’s Tacos

If there’s one Mexican dish that everyone can recognise, it’s the taco. It’s simple in its construction, yet complex in its flavours.
Papi’s head chef and partner, Mauricio Espinoza, does justice to this dish by bringing authentic Mexican flavours to the table with a delicious variety of tacos to bite into.
Must-tries are the tacos de suadero (slow cooked brisket), tacos de carnitas (pulled pork), and their fantastic tacos de pescado (grilled dory).
Aside from tacos, Papi’s also serves up some great burritos like the burrito de suadero or carnitas and tasty starters like the esquites (Mexican style grilled street corn), and the shrimp ceviche tostadas which feature crispy corn tortillas topped with marinated shrimp, capsicum, jalapenos, and a drizzle of lime juice.

Singapore’s oldest Mexican restaurant has been serving customers for over 30 years — which means that they’re doing something right! And indeed, Margarita’s does, with a variety of seasonal and traditional dishes with modern twists to bring a little culinary flair to the taste buds.
Its menu features some of the rarer Mexican favourites such as jalapeno or poblano rellenos (stuffed chilies), chicken or beef enchiladas, and chile- and coffee- rubbed beef short ribs topped with red mole — a sauce that’s an explosion of sweet, spicy, nutty, and earthy flavours.
Other highlights include the sizzling fajitas in chicken or beef, the carne asada (grilled and sliced beef steak), and the quesadillas.

03 • Lucha Loco

Enthralled by the sights, sounds, and flavours of Mexico, four friends wanted to bring that experience back to Singapore. Hence, Lucha Loco was born in 2012.
Influenced by the traditional flavours of Mexico with a contemporary twist, Lucha Loco has become one of the go-to spots for Mexican food in Singapore, with a menu covering the the 3 most popular dishes — quesadillas, tacos, and burritos. 🌯
For starters (pun intended 😉), the queso flameado (flamed and melted cheese) is a must, with a flambeed mix of cheeses, pico de gallo (fresh tomato salsa), braised beef brisket and savoury pork chorizo.
Other highlights include the delicious pulled lamb shoulder burrito, pork belly tacos, baja fish tacos, and the huitlacoche quesadilla loaded with corn, oyster mushroom, cotija cheese, and chimichurri.

04 • Vatos Urban Tacos

Vatos Urban Tacos is proof that the Korean-Mexican fusion food that’s so popular in the west coast of the United States has found an appreciative audience in Singapore too. The menu is a bit less extensive than some of the other places on this list, but you’ll be happy when you see what’s on it.
Some delicious dishes you shouldn’t miss include the barbacoa jalapeno spring rolls, kimchi carnitas fries, kimchi pork quesadillas, and galbi short rib tacos. If that doesn’t have your mouth watering already, you may want to try the more traditional fares like the baja fish or carne asada tacos.
You can also share a big plate of “nacho mama’s nachos” with friends and dip your chips into mashed black beans, hot queso cheese, cilantro lime cream, jalapenos, guacamole, and Vatos’ own special hot sauce. Make it all the more delish by adding meat like carne asada and galbi short rib.

05 • Afterwit

Afterwit is another interesting place to add to this list as it’s a unique fusion of Tex-Mex style food and a little local flavour. The result is a menu that’s as interesting as it is tasty.
Must-tries include the jalapeno poppers that are stuffed with thick, gooey mozzarella cheese, the cheeky git tacos (deliciously braised beef cheek in coffee sauce), and the birria tacos, which feature charcoal tortillas stuffed with mozzarella and either chicken, lamb or beef that you can dip into their savoury lamb consomme broth.
Some other notable winners on the menu include the carne burrito (stuffed with pulled beef, beef bacon, roasted sweet potato, cheese, and rice), the mole mole mole (chicken leg topped with mole sauce), and the bahn mi tacos which come with pickled veggies, sesame-cured quail eggs, chipotle sour cream, and a choice of chicken, beef or lamb.
