It’s complemented by savoury homemade dried shrimp, crispy ikan bilis, and a fiery kick of red-hot chilli, creating a deliciously complex balance of flavours and textures.

03 • Lilac Oak

If your budget is around $20 to $30, you don’t want to overlook Lilac Oak. Lauded as one of the best vegan cafes in Singapore, it has received hundreds of rave reviews from happy customers over the years — and for good reason. Its sandwiches are heavenly! The Simple Tofu Sandwich is our personal favourite as it comes with a delectable turmeric tofu patty grilled masterfully, sauteed carrots, and fresh cucumbers doused in fragrant fermented beancurd sauce.

Go for their house-special Bimbimbap if you’re feeling hungry (or hangry), as the rice bowl features a refreshing and healthy mix of seasonal vegetables, tofu, housemade kimchi, and a generous serving of Gochujang (Korean chilli paste).

If you’re in the mood for a drink, the Vegan Cafe offers a selection of artisanal teas. We highly recommend their iced Matcha Oat Latte — it’ll leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

04 • Genesis Vegan Restaurant

(Photo: Seth Lui)

Don’t judge a book by its cover or a restaurant by its interior. This unassuming vegan eatery may not look fancy, but its food speaks for itself. With vegan versions of Singaporean, Korean, and Italian dishes, Genesis provides a yummy plant-based experience for vegans and non-vegans alike without emptying your wallet.

Their standout? Homemade dumplings that pack a healthy punch, consisting of juicy mock meat and fresh veggies. Another favourite of ours is the Jajangmyeon (a noodle dish with black bean sauce). The Korean-Chinese noodle dish is generously coated in rich black bean gravy, delivering a deep umami flavour. The noodles, perfectly chewy and satisfying with each bite, pair beautifully with the crisp cucumber and carrot slices on the side.
