Watching movies in Singapore often comes down to choosing between Golden Village, Shaw Theatres or Cathay Cineplexes. It’s not a bad choice to make — they’re all perfectly good for watching everything from Marvel’s latest blockbuster to Jack Neo’s newest Ah Boys or Ah Girls films.
But have you ever tried visiting an outdoor cinema? If you’re up for catching a movie while taking in the fresh air, spectacular sunset and stunning scenery — then you’re definitely in for a treat. Here are 5 outdoor cinemas every movie lover in Singapore should absolutely visit!
01 • Have a movie night with the best view in town at Cinewav

Cinewav gives movie lovers the chance to watch movies at some of the most scenic locations in Singapore — the Marina at Keppel Bay (Cinewav @ MKB) and the observation deck at the top of Marina Bay Sands Hotel (Cinewav Movies in the Sky). It features an immersive ‘silent cinema’ system that allows you to watch movies while listening to the audio through your own smartphone and headphones. To set it up, just follow the steps in this user guide before your movie date.
Cinewav @ MKB has several film showings per month that come with a great view of the sea from your comfy outdoor recliner chair. It’s also pet-friendly and you can bring your own snacks and beverages!
Cinewav Movies in the Sky has fewer film showings per month but provides arguably the best outdoor cinema view in Singapore, with the entire Marina Bay in the backdrop. This venue doesn’t allow you to bring your own snacks or beverages, but you can grab yours from the concession stall at the SkyPark Observation Deck.

Movies By The Beach sounds pretty self-explanatory, right? Located at Southside on Sentosa, this venue gives moviegoers a chance to catch some iconic favourites from the past like The Mummy, Gone In Sixty Seconds, and more while basking in the sunset, stars, and sea breeze.
Entry is free but limited to the first 400 people, so remember to arrive early. You’ll need to bring your own picnic mats (1.5m x 1.5m maximum) or foldable chairs too. As for snacks and drinks, no outside food or drink is allowed, but don’t worry — you may still buy them at the venue.
Note: 2022 movie season is almost over, with the last film, Ford V Ferrari, playing on 30 September 2022 at 7.30pm. But Movies By The Beach will return in 2023, so be sure to add this outdoor cinema to your bucket list next year!

03 • Have a private rooftop movie session at The Sundowner
(Photo adapted from: The Sundowner and Secret Singapore)
Located in Siglap’s bustling cafe and bar scene, The Sundowner is a private lifestyle activity space where you can participate in everything from nature-based workshops to movie screenings.
Speaking of movie screenings, The Sundowner lets you book outdoor movie sessions where you and your loved ones can have the whole rooftop all to yourselves for the evening!
One of the things that we love about this place is that you can choose what you want to watch, so even if you’re a cinephile with a selective taste in movies, you don’t have to worry about feeling left out! Simply bring your laptop or mobile phone loaded with your movie of the day and connect to the venue’s Apple TV box.
Not just that, but you’re also free to bring along your own snacks and beverages, or order from some of the many cafes in the area. Every booking also comes with your own personal bartender who will serve up to three yummy cocktails per person in the squad. There’s also an FOC barbecue pit for you to cook on — just bring your own charcoal and food and you’re good to go! 🤩
Note: Remember to let someone else handle the wheel if you’re planning to grab some alcohol.

Hendrick’s Sunset Cinema came back strong earlier this year from a brief pause due to COVID-19, with a solid lineup of award-winning films like Belfast, House of Gucci, and more.
Pamper yourself to a complete seaside movie experience that comes with a scenic sunset, plenty of sea breeze, music, dinner, and Hendrick’s signature gin cocktails of course — and that’s all before the movie starts! Once it does, you’ll be treated to a comfy beach lounge chair and a pair of wireless noise-cancelling headphones to enjoy the movie in peace.
This outdoor movie venue doesn’t allow you to bring your own food and beverages, but there’s plenty available on sale at the Tanjong Beach Club.
Note: The 2022 movie season has come to a close, but you can still join their mailing list to get the latest news on what’s coming in 2023.
Also, remember to take the back seat and let someone else do the driving if you’ll be having alcohol.
