When we first started building up GetGo, we told ourselves: We want to make this service as accessible as possible. It’s in our tagline: the freedom to drive. Emphasis: freedom. So we decided that we won’t take a deposit, nor will we require membership fees. Anyone can drive with us — the only requirements? 1) 19 years old and above, with at least 1 year of driving experience, or 2) 25 years old and above, with no driving experience needed.

We replaced a deposit with a pre-authorization hold policy. If you’re a fellow GetGoer, you might already be familiar with this. This policy raised quite the debate within the community — some preferred the pre-authorization hold as it does not require a deposit to be paid upfront, while others did not support the policy as they felt that it was too restrictive.

So we gathered the whole team, put our heads together, and asked ourselves: “How can we bring GetGoers the best of both worlds?”

Cue the lightbulb moment. We went to work, and we’re so excited to introduce our new charging policy — we daresay it’s a brand new, never-done-before concept in the carsharing and car rental industry!

This new policy eliminates the need for both a pre-authorization hold and deposit. Here’s how it works:

Scenario A:

You make a booking for Monday, 2pm to 4pm. You immediately pay for just the hourly charge:

$12 (2 hrs x $6)

or

$12.60 if you opt for CDW [2 hrs x $6 + 5% x $12].

Once your booking ends, and let’s say you drove a total of 10km. You then pay for the mileage charge:

$3.90 (10km x $0.39)

or

$4.10 if you opt for CDW [10km x $0.39 + 5% x $3.90].

In total, you’ll pay $15.90 or $16.70 if you opt for CDW.

Scenario B:

You make a booking for Monday, 2pm to 4pm. You immediately pay for just the hourly charge:

$12 (2 hrs x $6)

or

$12.60 if you opt for CDW [2 hrs x $6 + 5% x $12].

You realize you can’t make it back by 4pm, so you decide to extend your booking by another hour. Once you extend your booking, you pay another

$6 (1 hr x $6)

or

$6.30 if you opt for CDW [1 hr x $6 + 5% x $6].

Once your booking ends, and let’s say you drove a total of 10km. You then pay for the mileage charge:

$3.90 (10km x $0.39)

or

$4.10 if you opt for CDW [10km x $0.39 + 5% x $3.90].

In total, you’ll pay $21.90 or $23 if you opt for CDW.
